In the footsteps of The Magenta Foundation's successful Carte Blanche Vol. 1: Photography, we are happy to announce the second volume in this collection — Carte Blanche Vol. 2: Painting.
The main purpose of this book is to provide a survey and showcase of the current state of painting in Canada. A book of this nature will bring the recognition for Canadian painters that is long overdue.
The final list of selected painters has been released — click here to view it.
Please accept our apology for the delay in making this announcement. Jurors had a difficult task choosing from among the best painters in Canada. Selecting the final group of artists was very difficult and the several months it has taken to arrive at the final 190 painters did not come without a tremendous amount of debate.
On behalf of everyone at Magenta, thank you to all the artists who submitted in the Carte Blanche Vol.2: Painting project. The book will be published in Autumn 2008 and will be available through book sellers across Canada and around the world. Details on the exhibition to accompany the book will be posted once they become available.
Both The Toronto Star and NOW Magazine have listed Carte Blanche Vol.2 among their top 10 arts events of 2008:

Monsoon-style rain didn't dampen the spirits of several hundred art enthusiasts who arrived at Toronto's MOCCA (Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art) to celebrate the book launch and exhibition opening of Carte Blanche v. 2: Painting — an unprecedented showcase of Canada's best and most promising painters.
Attendees took in the stunning exhibition, expertly curated by MOCCA creative director David Liss and the Roenisch Gallery's Clint Roenisch, featuring works by emerging and iconic artists including Iain Baxter, Chris Cran, Graham Gilmore, Will Murray, Melanie Rocan, and Tony Scherman.
Guests mingled into the early morning hours, enjoying tasty hors d'oeuvres by A La Carte Kitchen and vino provided by Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits, finally departing with the evening's crowned jewel — a copy of Magenta's Carte Blanche v. 2: Painting.
